Robert Irwin, fresh from his triumphant win on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars, has shared his plans to return to his roots at Australia Zoo. The 22-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to show off his mirrorball trophy to the zoo's animals, including a koala, a bird, and a snake. The video also featured his sister Bindi Irwin and her daughter Grace, with Bindi comparing her own mirrorball trophy from her win a decade ago.
Irwin's victory on the US dance competition was followed by a press tour and a trip to South Africa to film the upcoming season of Australia's I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here as host. Now back in Queensland, he is eager to get back to work at the family-owned zoo. 'The thing that I most want to do, really, is return to my day job, first and foremost,' he told The Sydney Morning Herald. 'Because my day job is not dancing.'
Irwin emphasised his commitment to continuing the legacy of his parents, Steve and Terri Irwin, and to championing environmental causes. 'My main priority right now is to completely reconnect with my day job and with what is most important to me, and that will always be where my heart beats from,' he said. He also expressed a desire to inspire young people, saying, 'I would hope to be someone that young people can look at as an example of what it is to follow your passion.'
Irwin was just two years old when his father Steve died after a stingray encounter. During his DWTS run, he dedicated a performance to his late father and sister, set to 'Footprints in the Sand' by Leona Lewis.
