Rick Moranis Ends 23-Year Acting Hiatus for 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' Sequel

Rick Moranis, the beloved star of 1980s classics such as Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, is set to return to acting after a 23-year absence. The Canadian actor will reprise his role as Wayne Szalinski in a new sequel, Shrunk, directed by Joe Johnston.

Moranis stepped away from Hollywood following the death of his wife, Ann Belsky, in 1991. He chose to prioritise raising his children over his film career, turning down numerous roles. In a 2006 interview with The Independent, he explained: 'I started to really miss them. It got to the point where I was doing a lot of pictures with kids – really nice kids, but not my kids.'

He added: 'I was like, “You know what? I’m tired of talking to my kids from a hotel room. I’m going home.” So I turned down the next pictures that came along and the break just got longer and longer.' Moranis noted that he did not miss the work, travel, or people, and declined roles well into the 2010s, including a part in Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters reboot.
