Rapper Offset Shot Outside Florida Casino: Investigation Underway

Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating a shooting incident involving the prominent rapper Offset, which occurred outside a Florida casino on Monday. The former member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos was reportedly shot following a physical altercation at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, located just north of Miami.

Details of the Shooting and Police Response

Police have confirmed that two individuals have been detained in connection with the shooting, which took place after a fight erupted at the casino premises. Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition as of Tuesday. Investigators are diligently working to identify any additional persons who may have been involved in the altercation or subsequent shooting.

Offset's Musical Career and Accolades

Offset first rose to fame as one-third of the Grammy-nominated hip-hop group Migos, which originated from Atlanta. The trio is widely regarded as one of the most successful hip-hop groups in history, renowned for popularising the rapid-fire triplet flow that has significantly influenced modern trap music. Their career trajectory was launched with the 2013 hit single Versace, leading to a series of multi-platinum tracks including Bad and Boujee, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, alongside other notable songs like Stir Fry, Narcos, and T-Shirt.

Migos released four full-length studio albums during their active years, with the group effectively concluding after the tragic shooting death of Offset's cousin and fellow member Takeoff in 2022. As a solo artist, Offset has cultivated a distinctive style characterised by melodic yet aggressive delivery. He has released three solo albums to date: Father of Four in 2019, Set It Off in 2023, and Kiari in 2025. In interviews, Offset has described his solo work as a rebellion against industry expectations and a personal affirmation of his artistic identity.

Personal Life and Public Relationships

Offset's relationship with fellow rapper Cardi B has consistently attracted substantial public and media attention. The couple secretly married in Atlanta in September 2017 and have three children together: daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, aged 7, son Wave Set Cephus, aged 4, and a toddler named Blossom. They have collaborated on several musical projects, including songs like Clout, Jealousy, and Icey.

In 2024, Cardi B publicly announced that she had filed for divorce from Offset, subsequently seeking primary custody of their children and requesting child support through legal channels.

Previous Violence Involving Migos Members

This incident is not the first instance of violence affecting members of the Migos group. More than three years ago, Takeoff was fatally shot at a bowling alley in Houston, with police reports indicating he was an innocent bystander caught in a dispute over a dice game. Takeoff's death was part of a distressing pattern of fatal shootings involving hip-hop artists in recent years, including Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph.

Following Takeoff's death, the remaining Migos member Quavo has advocated for change, organising a summit against gun violence in 2024 to honour his nephew's memory and address broader societal issues.
