Queen Camilla to Gift Roo Toy to NYPL Completing Pooh Set

Queen Camilla will present a specially crafted toy of Winnie-the-Pooh character Roo to the New York Public Library during the upcoming state visit to the United States. This generous gift will complete the institution's collection of the beloved teddy bears that inspired the classic stories.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to arrive in the US on Monday for a four-day official visit. Their itinerary includes a meeting with President Donald Trump and attendance at a White House state banquet. President Trump has indicated that this state visit could help repair relations between the UK and the US, which have been strained over disagreements regarding the Iran war.

One of the highlights of Queen Camilla's schedule is a visit to the New York Public Library, where she will view the permanent Treasures collection. This collection houses the original teddy bears that belonged to Christopher Robin, the son of Winnie-the-Pooh creator A. A. Milne. These toys are believed to have inspired the beloved stories, first published a century ago in 1926.

The displayed collection currently includes Winnie, Tigger, Piglet, Kanga, and Eeyore. However, the original baby kangaroo toy, Roo, has been missing since it was lost in an apple orchard in the 1930s. To fill this gap, Queen Camilla will donate a Roo toy specially made for the occasion by Merrythought, a traditional British teddy bear manufacturer that produced the original toys at the beginning of the 20th century.

The design of the new Roo is based on the original illustrations from the Winnie-the-Pooh books. The toy, currently kept at Buckingham Palace, will accompany Queen Camilla on the royal flight across the Atlantic.
