Prince George stole the show at the Trooping the Colour parade, with many royal fans commenting on the future King's dramatic change in appearance as he marked the iconic event.
Astonishing Growth Spurt
It hardly seems possible that over a decade has passed since his first public appearance outside the Lindo Wing, yet Prince George is steadily coming into his own. Now 12 years old, the future monarch navigates royal duties with an impressive sense of calm and grown-up poise. However, it's not just his refined behaviour that has the public talking – it's his astonishing growth spurt.
Channelling the tall genes of both the Windsors, Middletons and the Spencers, George is suddenly towering over expectations. He is already catching up to his 5'9" mother, the Princess of Wales, even when she is in heels, leaving royal fans amazed at how rapidly the young prince is transforming before our eyes.
Public Reactions
Speaking about his lofty change in appearance at Trooping the Colour, one viewer said: "Wow, Prince George is so tall. Princess Catherine looks beautiful as always." Another commented: "The height on Prince George is just blowing my mind." Meanwhile, a third posted a shocked emoji and remarked: "The fact that Prince George (not yet 13) is almost as tall as his mum in heels!"
Prince George wasn't the sole member of the Royal Family to generate a viral moment at Trooping the Colour. The Princess of Wales looked incredibly elegant at the event and received praise for her understated tribute to Princess Diana.
History of Trooping the Colour
During the 17th century, battlefield communication was utterly chaotic. Amidst the smoke, din, and disorder of combat, a regiment's distinctive flag – known as its "Colour" – served as a visual gathering point. When a soldier became separated, they searched for the flag. To guarantee every man could identify his unit's Colour, junior officers would parade, or "troop," the flag gradually along the ranks ahead of battle.
In 1748, King George II chose to merge this military custom with his official birthday festivities. Born in November, a month infamous for dreadful British weather, he simply shifted his public birthday to June to guarantee better conditions for a parade. That custom endured – and today, Trooping the Colour functions as the official, public birthday celebration for the reigning British Sovereign, presently King Charles III.
Modern-Day Parade
Nowadays, the parade represents an enormous logistical achievement executed by the Household Division, the monarch's personal forces. The sheer magnitude of the operation is difficult to exaggerate. It includes more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 400 military musicians, and approximately 200 horses. Yet, the most iconic moment remains watching the Red Arrows soar over London in celebration. Millions of viewers watch the spectacle globally each year. It is a magnificent display of British pomp and pageantry, after all.
