The wedding of Olympic champion Adam Peaty to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's daughter, Holly, was overshadowed by a deepening family rift, culminating in the last-minute disinvitation of close relatives via an impersonal automated message.
Automated Snub for Aunt and Uncle
According to reports, Peaty's aunt Janet and uncle Eddie were informed they were no longer welcome at the glitzy ceremony just four days before the wedding at Bath Abbey. The news was delivered in what a source described as the most "impersonal" way possible: an automated message.
The message reportedly instructed them to respect the couple's decision. This late exclusion came after the pair had already spent money on accommodation, outfits, and gifts for the occasion on Saturday.
Widening Family Rift Excludes Most
This incident was not isolated. Peaty's mother, Caroline, had already been uninvited from the event. She had initially told friends she might "watch from the street" but later decided against it, stating it would be "too sad" and she did not wish to spoil his day.
It is reported that the swimmer's father, Mark, was only permitted to attend if he sat at the back of the church. Consequently, Peaty's sister Beth was the only family member from his side present at the ceremony, which was attended by over 200 other guests.
Gordon Ramsay's Speech Adds Insult to Injury
The family tensions reportedly spilled over into the wedding celebrations themselves. During his father-of-the-bride speech, Gordon Ramsay is said to have made a reference to the feud.
He reportedly told the newlyweds that his wife, Tana, "will be a good mum to them both," a comment which a family source claimed left Caroline feeling "outraged" and "hurt," as it implied she was a bad mother. Ramsay also allegedly told his daughter Holly, "Shame you don't have the same," in a further pointed remark.
Caroline has spoken openly about her distress, telling the Daily Mail, "I don't think they understand how much they have hurt me; it's as if they have cut my heart out." She added that the fallout had broken the family, making it their first Christmas not spent together.
The controversy cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous union for Adam Peaty, 31, and Holly Ramsay, 25, at the historic Bath Abbey, highlighting a very public and painful family dispute.
