Olympic champion Adam Peaty's wedding day was marred by a public family dispute after his estranged brother posted a cryptic and dark message on social media following his exclusion from the ceremony.
A Pointed Post From The Sidelines
Just hours after Adam Peaty, 31, married television chef Holly Ramsay, 25, at the historic Bath Abbey on Saturday, his brother James shared a pointed message on his Instagram story. The post, which remained live for only 15 minutes before being deleted, featured an old photograph of James and his mother, Caroline Peaty, standing outside the very same abbey.
The seemingly innocent image was paired with a remix of 'Speak Softly, Love', the iconic theme from the mafia film The Godfather. The song's association with the Corleone family, known for brutally eliminating outsiders, was widely interpreted as a stark comment on James's feelings about being frozen out of his brother's big day. Shortly after removing the story, James wiped his entire Instagram account clean.
A Wedding Overshadowed by Family Estrangement
The social media post highlighted a deep and ongoing rift within the Peaty family. Reports indicate that most of Adam's immediate family were excluded from the guest list of the 200-person wedding. His mother, Caroline, and brother James were reportedly barred from attending entirely.
Adam's father, Mark Peaty, was allegedly invited under controversial conditions. A source claimed he was told he could attend the ceremony but would have to 'sit at the back of the church behind the plus-ones'. In the end, Adam's sister Beth was the only family member present, serving as one of Holly Ramsay's bridesmaids. The rest of the Peaty family reportedly remained at their home in Uttoxeter, approximately 150 miles away.
The Roots of the Rift and a Public Fallout
The family tensions are said to have begun earlier when Caroline was left out of Holly's pre-wedding celebrations and was instead asked to care for Adam's five-year-old son, George. The situation escalated significantly when James was arrested over allegations he sent threatening messages to Adam during the swimmer's stag do in Budapest. He was later released on conditional bail.
Caroline Peaty had previously threatened to turn up at the abbey regardless, stating she would 'watch from the street'. She later decided against it, explaining it 'would be too sad' and she did not wish to 'spoil his big day'. Despite the very public drama, Adam appeared elated as he left the abbey hand-in-hand with his new bride, followed by her parents, Gordon and Tana Ramsay.
