Old Painting Thrown Out, Then Mysteriously Reappears

A woman has shared her shock after throwing away an old painting that came with her house - only to see it reappear years later with no explanation as to how it got there.

The woman, who shared her story on Reddit, explained that the artwork, which depicts an upper-class woman wearing a pink gown and carrying a white parasol as she strolls through a garden, was left behind by the previous owner of her house. When she moved into the property in July 2018, she threw the painting away because it didn't fit her style. However, years later, it has mysteriously reappeared, leaving her unable to come up with a logical explanation.

On Reddit, she said: "I found this today in my house and it was left behind by the previous homeowner when I moved into this house in July 2018. I had thrown it out but today it reappeared. I'm just trying to think of a logical explanation does anyone have any idea of this paintings origins and how this could’ve happened?"

Haunted painting or a prank?

While some users believe the situation is simply the result of a prank, others are convinced something more supernatural could be at play. One user said: "Two copies of them exist or someone is pranking you." Another user added: "Well idk, but what I think it’s a curse painting." A third user said: "You can't do anything. You're f*****, unless you get it blesses by a priest, but I don't even know if that would work." One more user added: "Looks like a lithograph, so you might have had two copies and only just stumbled across the second one."

The true history of Joseph Caraud’s 'Midday Stroll' artwork

The original painting, by Joseph Caraud, was created in 1874 as an oil painting on a 38 x 26-inch canvas. The French artist, who was born in 1821, was best known for his depictions of fashionable upper-class women. A description of the artwork reads: "Midday Stroll, signed and dated 1874, is a masterful example of Joseph Caraud's skill as a painter. The use of colour is particularly striking, with the pink and white of the woman's dress and parasol contrasting beautifully against the lush greenery and architectural elements in the background. The woman's serene and contemplative expression adds depth and emotion to the painting. The attention to detail is also impressive, with the intricate patterns on the woman's dress and the delicate features of the small dog she holds. The composition of the painting is balanced, with the large urn to the woman's right providing a counterpoint to her figure and adding to the sense of elegance and luxury."
