Mia Fevola, the step-daughter of Australian Football League icon Brendan Fevola, has broken down in tears while revealing a harrowing history of being stalked and receiving death threats. The 26-year-old social media influencer made the emotional confession during Sunday's broadcast of the reality television show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Australia, sharing the extent of the abuse she has faced for years.
Years of Harassment and Fear
Fevola described a campaign of harassment that escalated to terrifying levels, including threats against her family. "It got so out of hand that at one point, I had accounts made on how they were going to kill my family and me. I had death threats," she told her campmates. The abuse extended beyond online platforms, with perpetrators sending malicious letters to multiple locations.
"I had letters written [that said] 'Get tested for HIV, you (sl*t)' to my two workplaces, my parents' two properties, and my ex's house," Mia continued, highlighting the invasive nature of the attacks. She expressed particular fear that the stalker appeared to have personal knowledge of her life. "They knew... That was the scary part. It was someone that knew me. And they would ring up my work, saying, 'I'm gonna come get you.' It was very scary."
Abuse Extending into Real Life
The harassment has not been confined to the digital realm. Mia Fevola disclosed that she has also been confronted and attacked in public settings. "I have had people in real life [approach me]. I've had people throw glasses at me in a bar," she explained. She added that derogatory verbal abuse is a constant occurrence, stating, "I often walk past men in a bar setting and they'll be like, '(sl*t).' Constant. You'd think it doesn't go beyond social media. But sometimes it does."
She revealed that the stalking and threats are ongoing, with the most recent letter arriving just a few months ago. "The last time I got a letter was a few months ago. It's still going. It's been years. They're obsessed. They fixate. It's so scary," Mia said, conveying the persistent nature of the ordeal.
Cyberbullying Intensified During High-Profile Relationship
The level of online abuse and cyberbullying reportedly increased significantly during her relationship with AFL player Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. Mia previously shared examples of the misogynistic and sl*t-shaming comments she received on Instagram after going public with the romance. The couple have since parted ways, citing "too much pressure" on their relationship.
However, Mia emphasised that the harassment predates and extends beyond her dating life. "It's something that I've always just sort of experienced for as long as I can remember," she told the show. "It went further than just my dating life. It became anything I did. It was like, 'She's a nepo baby.' 'She doesn't deserve to get anywhere...' You know what I mean?"
The Psychological Toll and Unanswered Questions
Reflecting on the motives behind such sustained abuse, Mia Fevola expressed a mix of pity and profound anxiety. "You feel sorry for them, because they must be so, so unhappy," she said. Yet, the uncertainty of the stalker's intentions remains a source of deep fear. "But [you wonder] is it people trying to get a rise out of you, or is it actually someone that's dangerous?" she questioned, highlighting the distressing ambiguity that victims of stalking often face.
Her testimony on the popular reality programme has cast a stark light on the severe and sometimes dangerous repercussions of online harassment and celebrity culture, illustrating how digital abuse can spill over into tangible, real-world threats and violence.
