Reality TV star Maura Higgins has lifted the lid on how she maintains her impressively toned physique, insisting there's no magic secret – just balance, consistency, and a refusal to give up her favourite foods like pizza and pasta.
The Philosophy Behind the Physique
The 35-year-old former Love Island contestant, who turned heads with a daring midriff-baring outfit at the British Fashion Awards earlier this week, opened up during a social media Q&A. When a fan directly asked, 'How did you get those abs?' her response was refreshingly straightforward.
"No secret just balance and consistency," Higgins stated. "I eat clean most of the time but I never restrict myself from the foods I love i.e. Pasta/Pizza!!" She emphasised that lots of Pilates and yoga have transformed her body, adding, "I've finally found what works best for me. It's taken a lot of hard work but it's all about finding what feels good for your body."
A Weekday-Weekend Approach to Diet
Higgins elaborated on her nutritional strategy, which hinges on a clear split between weekdays and weekends. During the week, she focuses on healthier options like eggs, tuna, and avocado, deliberately avoiding junk food. This discipline allows her to indulge guilt-free when Saturday and Sunday roll around.
"At the weekends I eat what I want and during the week I obviously try my best to eat healthier foods," she explained. Her weekend treats famously include pasta, red wine, and takeaways from Domino's and McDonald's. Proving her point, she shared a snap of herself enjoying a large bowl of pasta with a glass of red wine, captioning it in response to a question about being wined and dined: "I wine and dine myself."
Family Support and Future Projects
The star credits her sister, Louise, a personal trainer, with educating her about healthy eating and sustainable fitness. "I'm not a nutritionist or anything like that but I do have a good enough diet and stay as clean as possible, but then I still have whatever I want," Higgins noted.
Her renewed focus on fitness is driven by upcoming projects. "I've honestly been working my (tiny) ass off in the gym the last few months!" she revealed. "It's not been easy but this is the best I've felt in such a long time!! I want to be in the best shape of my life."
Fans will soon see more of Higgins on screen, as she is set to appear in the second series of The Celebrity Traitors USA, filmed in Scotland and streaming on BBC iPlayer from January. She teased the season as "chaos" and "brutal," promising "the greatest moment in Traitors' history."
In a separate revelation, Higgins also confirmed she uses Botox, administered by a trusted professional, to maintain her glowing complexion, having previously only admitted to lip fillers after her Love Island stint in 2021.
