MAFS Star Cameron Merchant's Fishing Horror: Hook Pierces Eyelid
MAFS star Cameron Merchant gets fishing hook in eyelid

Reality TV star Cameron Merchant has revealed a shocking and painful injury he sustained while on a fishing trip with his five-year-old son. The 42-year-old, best known for appearing on Married At First Sight Australia, posted a graphic video to social media this week showing a fishing hook painfully lodged through his eyelid.

A Shocking Mishap on a Father-Son Trip

In the clip, the former cricket star can be seen remarkably composed despite the hook being clearly latched into his skin. "Do you want a fishing story that you just can't make up?" Cameron asked his followers. He then explained the freak accident: "I just pulled the line in, and the hook just seemed to... yeah. So, catch anything? My eyelid!"

The incident occurred during what was his young son Ollie's first ever fishing experience. Demonstrating impressive steadiness, Cameron then carefully removed the hook himself before rubbing his sore eye.

Calm Demeanour and Jokes Amid the Pain

Despite the obvious danger and discomfort, Merchant's attitude was light-hearted. "Anyone have any fishing tips?" he quipped to his fans after the ordeal. He expanded on the experience in his caption, writing: "Everyone's having fun until someone loses an eyelid… Ollie's first time fishing.. Potentially the last."

He added with typical dry humour: "Didn't catch a thing. Got burnt, hands smell like prawns but experiences like this bring fathers and sons closer together."

Fan Reaction and Family Support

Followers of the star were stunned by the footage, flooding the comments section with their reactions. One person wrote, "OMG mate!! I'd say nice catch, but is it early for jokes…? Hope you're okay," while another exclaimed, "OMG YOU ARE SO CALM!!! I would be hyperventilating."

The fishing mishap comes shortly after Cameron's wife, fellow MAFS alum Jules Robinson, 43, penned a heartfelt tribute to him. She praised him as her "biggest cheerleader," highlighting his behind-the-scenes support. "He irons my suit (with a towel), reads my presentation back to me while I get ready, and cheers from the wings," she shared.

The couple, who met on the show in 2019 and married for real later that same year, have two sons together: Ollie, five, and one-year-old Carter. Cameron responded to Jules's post, calling their partnership moments "cherished."
