Maddox Jolie Drops Pitt Surname in Film Credits, Mirroring Sister Shiloh's Move
Maddox Jolie, the 24-year-old son of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has officially dropped his father's last name from professional credits, appearing as Maddox Jolie rather than Maddox Jolie-Pitt in the end credits of his mother's new film Couture. This development follows his sister Shiloh's legal name change eight months prior, marking another significant shift within the Jolie-Pitt family dynamics.
Film Credits Reveal Surname Change
According to People magazine, the revelation emerged on Thursday when production notes for Couture provided to journalists showed Maddox listed solely as Maddox Jolie. The film, which debuted in French theaters earlier this week and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, features Maddox serving as an assistant director. This contrasts with his previous credit on Jolie's biopic Maria, about opera singer Maria Callas, where he was credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt while working as a production assistant.
Family Pattern of Name Changes
Maddox's move echoes actions taken by his siblings. Last year, Shiloh, born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie shortly after turning 18. Her lawyer, Peter Levine, stated she "made an independent and significant decision following painful events" and clarified that the publication of a legal notice was a California requirement, not a public announcement. In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie on a Broadway playbill, and a year earlier, Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie in a sorority video, omitting Pitt's surname.
Strained Family Relationships
Sources indicate Pitt's relationship with his older children remains strained, with People reporting last year that "He has virtually no contact with the adult kids" and limited engagement with younger children due to his filming schedule. The family includes six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 19; and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Ongoing Legal and Personal Divisions
Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024, concluding an eight-year legal battle. They remain embroiled in a dispute over their French vineyard and estate after Jolie sold her reported $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021. Neither parent has publicly commented on Maddox's latest credit change, and representatives for both have not responded to requests for comment from The Daily Mail.
