Lorna Luxe Opens Up About Husband John's Funeral After Cancer Battle
Fashion influencer Lorna Luxe has broken her social media silence to share a heartfelt update with her 1.8 million followers following the death of her husband John. Lorna Andrews, widely known online as Lorna Luxe, revealed that a 'beautiful' funeral was held yesterday for her late husband, who passed away last month after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A Personalised Humanist Ceremony
The 43-year-old businesswoman described the send-off as a humanist funeral, a non-religious, personalised ceremony that focuses on celebrating the life, personality, and legacy of the deceased. In an emotional video posted to her followers, Lorna expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming turnout, stating, 'People that I’d not seen in a very long time turned up. I knew we’d have a good turn out because people loved John. He was very loved.'
She continued, 'I was like ‘wow’ all of these people rocked up, and we’re in the midlands. I was just really touched by that, and yeah, it was a good day. It was good to chat about him and celebrate him.' The ceremony was conducted by a woman who, according to Lorna, 'captured him in such a way it was almost like she knew him.'
John's Courageous Fight Against Cancer
John Andrews, a former banker aged 64, was first diagnosed with stage three cancer in April 2023, beginning chemotherapy treatment shortly after. Following a period of remission, the couple received devastating news in May 2024 when the disease returned aggressively, spreading to John's brain and reappearing in his adrenal gland, upgrading the cancer to stage four.
Despite this setback, hope remained when John's oncologist approved surgery to remove the tumour from his adrenal gland. However, days after the procedure, John suffered a severe migraine and was rushed to A&E, where medics discovered another tumour in his brain. By Christmas, his condition had worsened further after contracting sepsis, and doctors confirmed that all treatment options had been exhausted, rendering the cancer terminal.
Finding Solace in Community Support
Lorna has regularly updated her followers throughout John's illness, describing the public sharing of their journey as therapeutic. She emphasised the importance of the supportive messages she received, saying, 'When the chips are down, you just want to see people getting behind you.'
Reflecting on her limited family support, Lorna added, 'I haven't got brothers or sisters. I haven't got a massive family unit. When John was in hospital, I would come home overnight, get myself a glass of wine and I would be sat there replying to all these messages. They were all just full of love, really nice – exactly what I needed at that time.'
The influencer's candid updates have resonated deeply with her audience, offering a raw glimpse into the challenges of caregiving and grief. As she navigates this difficult period, Lorna's tribute to John's funeral underscores the profound impact of community and personalised remembrance in honouring a life well-lived.
