Hollywood icon Kim Novak has launched a scathing critique against the upcoming biographical film detailing her legendary romance with Sammy Davis Jr, specifically targeting actress Sydney Sweeney's "vulgar and exploitative" portrayal of her character.
The 91-year-old Vertigo star expressed profound disappointment in how producers have chosen to "sexualise and degrade" her historic relationship with the entertainment legend, reducing their meaningful connection to mere physical attraction.
Historical Integrity Compromised
Novak, who enjoyed a close friendship with Davis throughout the 1950s and 1960s despite the era's rampant racism, emphasised that their bond transcended physicality. "What we shared was genuine affection and mutual respect during tremendously challenging times," she stated.
The actress lamented that the film's producers have chosen sensationalism over substance, distorting historical truth for commercial gain. Her statement highlighted particular concern about the "unnecessary sexualisation" of scenes that never occurred in reality.
Defending Legacy and Dignity
Novak's representatives confirmed her deep distress upon learning about the film's direction, noting that the portrayal fundamentally misrepresents both her character and the nature of her relationship with Davis.
"This isn't about prudishness—it's about accuracy and respect," Novak asserted. "We fought against prejudice and stood by each other as friends and colleagues. To reduce that to cheap titillation dishonours both our memories."
