Julián Quiñones: Shooting Survivor to World Cup Hero

Mexico forward Julián Quiñones has etched his name into football history by scoring the opening goal of the 2026 World Cup. The 29-year-old starred in the match, also assisting Raul Jimenez before being substituted in the 79th minute.

Career Journey

Quiñones spent his entire career in Mexico with Atlas FC until Saudi side Al-Qadsiah signed him for €13.80m in 2024. Since then, he has scored 62 goals in 68 games, winning the golden boot ahead of stars like Ivan Toney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Controversial Celebrations

His goal celebrations have drawn attention, including a red card for an obscene gesture toward the referee after scoring for Atlas against Chivas. He was already booked for removing his shirt.
