The 73-year-old musician and former television host John Tesh, who rose to fame during the 1980s, made a surprising and rare public appearance at the 6th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards held at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Saturday. In 2021, Tesh publicly discussed his intense struggle with cancer, revealing that he had experienced a relapse with two tumors located around his pelvis. The composer and former co-host of Entertainment Tonight faced an even more dire prognosis back in 2015 when doctors informed him that his cancer was terminal and advised him to get his affairs in order. Reflecting on that time, Tesh admitted to turning to heavy drinking mixed with prescription pain medication, a coping mechanism that his wife ultimately confronted him about. He emphasized that without Sellecca's diligent advocacy and deep study of prostate cancer, he believes he would not have survived.

Last week, Tesh also made rare comments about his brief romantic involvement with media mogul Oprah Winfrey during the 1970s. At the time, both were working at competing local television stations in Nashville, Tennessee. Tesh described the relationship as "very uncomfortable" given the social climate of the era, noting the challenges of being an interracial couple in the South.
Despite external pressures, Tesh and Winfrey maintained a lighthearted attitude about their situation, often joking about which restaurant they would "empty" during their weekly dates due to the attention they attracted. Tesh recalled that even then, it was evident Winfrey was destined for extraordinary success, and he enjoyed covering stories alongside her.
