Oscar-nominee Jessie Buckley's husband Freddie Sorensen: From X Factor to mental health
Jessie Buckley's husband's secret showbiz past revealed

Oscar-nominated actress Jessie Buckley has meticulously shielded her husband from the public eye, but it can now be revealed that her low-profile partner boasts a fascinating and varied career in showbusiness himself.

From Simon Cowell's side to a Norfolk idyll

Freddie Sorensen, 47, an Islington native, built a successful behind-the-scenes television career before stepping away from the industry. His impressive CV includes producing ITV's Game of Talents UK with Vernon Kay and playing a key role in the 2022 revival of the BBC's iconic show Gladiators, where he produced two episodes.

Perhaps most notably, he once worked alongside music and TV mogul Simon Cowell. The couple, who met on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend seven years ago, tied the knot in 2023 in a romantic ceremony at their 15th-century Norfolk home.

The party promoter and mental health advocate

Beyond television, Sorensen has a history as an innovative events entrepreneur. In 2016, he co-founded the 'hipster' startup Rebel Bingo, a raucous, alcohol-fuelled twist on the traditional game aimed at younger audiences.

This venture grew from years spent staging wild variety nights at Farringdon Town Hall, long before he met his future wife. He also ran popular London party nights with a childhood friend under the name Red Class.

In a significant career shift, Freddie later retrained at university and pivoted his focus towards mental health awareness. He channelled his personal experiences into creating the supportive podcast Depression For Beginners, which he launched to help others navigating similar challenges.

A supportive partner behind the scenes

Despite Jessie's recent comments in Vogue suggesting her husband would not be making a 'red-carpet debut' at the upcoming Oscars, Freddie has in fact attended the ceremony with her before. In 2022, he was photographed at a star-studded table with Olivia Colman and Maggie Gyllenhaal, with Jessie by his side.

His support for the Irish actress, who shot to fame on BBC's I'd Do Anything in 2018, is evident. He regularly shares his admiration for her work on social media. The couple, who welcomed their first child—a daughter—last year, were introduced by Universal Records executive Marc Robinson, whose client roster includes Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

As Jessie Buckley, 36, prepares for Hollywood's biggest night following her Oscar nomination for Hamnet, she does so with a partner whose own extraordinary journey from TV producer and party promoter to mental health advocate remains a compelling story in its own right.
