Jane McDonald has ticked off one of her 'bucket list' places to visit during her travel series on Channel 5. The beloved presenter issued a sweet message to viewers, urging them not to be afraid of traveling alone.
A Sweet Message to Viewers
On Sunday (April 26) morning, Channel 5 will air a repeat episode of Holidaying with Jane McDonald as she explores the sandy beaches of Grenada. The episode was filmed back in 2022. While in a taxi heading to the airport to mark the start of her journey, Jane told viewers she has had 'a blast' traveling solo so far.
Speaking to the camera, she said: 'I know there are a lot of us out there now who are single, if you're single and you want to do the Caribbean, do it! I promise you, you'll have a brilliant time. Don't be afraid, just take that first step. If I can do it, you can do it.'
Her heartfelt message came one year after she lost her partner, Eddie Rothe, who died at the age of 67 from lung cancer. The pair were together for 13 years before his death, though they first met when Jane was 17 years old and dated briefly before parting ways. They rekindled their romance and got engaged in 2008.
Opening Up About Grief
Earlier in her travel series, Jane candidly opened up about how seeing happy couples can sometimes trigger her. While in St Lucia, she said: 'A lot of you know that my life has changed now. And I'm single. I chose this place because I didn't want to be on a romantic island, on my own, looking at couples everywhere. So this place is very open to singles coming here as well as couples. It's got lots of activities if you want. So it's really up to you whether you have a quiet holiday or a full active holiday.'
Since then, Jane has embarked on many other travel adventures, including trips to Kenya, Cyprus, the Canary Islands, and most recently Nashville. During a recent episode of her Nashville series, Jane was moved to tears after recording her album at the legendary Blackbird Studios.
Through tears, she said: 'It's blown my mind a little bit really. When I started here I thought 'what am I doing?' I've always felt my heart is in country as I'm a storyteller. And when I write songs I write a story and this is my story. All of my life I've sort of been the underdog. Never give up. If I've learned anything from being in Nashville I just never gave up. I fought all the way through. It's been a struggle. I'm not going to lie. This industry is hard - very, very hard.'
Holidaying with Jane McDonald is available to watch on Channel 5.
