Isla Fisher Opens Up on 'Challenging' Divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen
Isla Fisher on 'Challenging' Divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen

Australian actress Isla Fisher has candidly discussed the profound personal challenges she has faced following her separation from husband of 14 years, Sacha Baron Cohen.

Rebuilding a Sense of Self

In a revealing interview with NewBeauty, which features a sizzling new photoshoot of the 49-year-old star, Fisher admitted the past year has been 'a really challenging time'. She explained that she has been intensely focused on reconstructing her identity after the couple, who share three children, mutually announced the end of their marriage in late 2023. Their divorce was formally finalised in June this year.

Fisher described the experience as a unique form of grief, stating, 'I definitely feel like there's something about the divorce club that anyone in it understands in a way other people don't.' However, she has since adopted a more positive outlook, finding excitement in the process of self-discovery. 'I feel like creating a new identity after your divorce is so fun, though,' she shared. 'You get to reflect on your values and goals, explore new interests, focus on what you want and rebuild your sense of self.'

A Contrasting Approach to Single Life

While Fisher has been concentrating on personal growth and her career, Sacha Baron Cohen's approach to post-divorce life has been markedly different. Just three months after the divorce was complete, the 54-year-old Borat star was linked to 27-year-old model Hannah Palmer. More recently, he was photographed in the early hours of a Friday with 26-year-old social media personality Kelsey Calemine, who is 28 years his junior.

According to reports, Cohen was seen chatting with Calemine outside a Hollywood nightclub before she appeared to input her number into his phone. An onlooker noted they were 'very flirty' and 'didn't stop laughing', though a friend of Cohen's later downplayed the encounter as a brief conversation with no follow-up.

Focus on Work and Family

Isla Fisher, meanwhile, has no immediate plans to re-enter the dating scene. She told The Sunday Times earlier this year that dating is not on her 'to-do list'. Instead, she is channelling her energy into her work and children. She is currently promoting the return of the Now You See Me franchise and has four films slated for release this year and next, marking her busiest period since 2016.

Reflecting on her career resurgence, Fisher acknowledged moments of feeling overwhelmed but emphasised gratitude. She is also prioritising reconnecting with old friends and childhood passions that were sidelined during her marriage. 'All the relationships that you have in your life... get to retake center stage,' she said. 'There are lots of positives that have come about from all this—like self-exploration and just trying to be kind to myself.'
