GMB Viewers Switch Off Over Brooklyn Beckham Feud Coverage as Family Rift Deepens
GMB viewers switch off over Brooklyn Beckham feud coverage

Viewers of ITV's Good Morning Britain have expressed fury after the programme led with coverage of Brooklyn Beckham's dramatic social media attack on his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, with many claiming they 'switched off'.

An Explosive Social Media Statement

On Monday, the 26-year-old aspiring chef broke his long silence on the family's acrimonious rift, sharing a six-page statement on Instagram. He declared he has no wish to reconcile with his family and stated he was standing up for himself 'for the first time in my life'. Brooklyn, who is estranged from his parents and siblings, blasted what he called a 'sham' family dynamic, alleging their love is contingent on 'how much you post on social media'.

The post made headline news on Tuesday's edition of Good Morning Britain, presented by Susanna Reid and Ed Balls. The segment, part of entertainment correspondent Jonathan Swain's bulletin, detailed the allegations. Former MP Ed Balls, 58, remarked: 'We have to stress, we haven't yet heard David and Victoria's side of things, but I guess all dynasties eventually come to an end and this is a major blow.'

Viewer Backlash Against GMB's Editorial Choice

Fans of the ITV morning show were quick to flood social media platform X, formerly Twitter, with complaints that the Beckham family feud did not warrant being the top story. With global tensions high, many viewers found the focus misplaced.

One viewer wrote: 'With all that's going on in the world, GMB has Brooklyn Beckham as the No.1 news story...' Another added: 'The World is going to hell in a hand cart but breaking news, top headline this morning: married man Brooklyn Beckham doesn't get on with his parents ffs.' A third concluded: 'I, like thousands of others, really couldn't give a toss about the Beckhams, very disappointing this is your top story.'

The Detailed Allegations from Brooklyn

In his lengthy statement, Brooklyn Beckham made a series of serious claims against his famous parents. He asserted he has been 'controlled by a family that values public promotion above all else' and said he has found 'peace and relief' from anxiety since being with his wife, Nicola Peltz, 31.

He traced the fractures back to their April 2022 wedding, accusing Victoria of cancelling Nicola's wedding dress at the 'eleventh hour' and hijacking their first dance. He claimed this left him so 'embarrassed' that the couple renewed their vows last year without his family present.

Brooklyn also addressed missing his father's 50th birthday celebrations in May last year. He claimed that during a trip to London for the event, repeated requests to see David were ignored. He alleged: 'When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn't invited.'

The statement further accused Victoria of repeatedly inviting 'women from my past' into their lives to cause discomfort and claimed his brothers were sent to 'attack' him on social media before blocking him. He concluded that 'Brand Beckham comes first' and that his family's affection is measured by social media posts and photo opportunities.

The Daily Mail has reported that relations deteriorated so badly last summer that Brooklyn asked his parents to communicate only through lawyers. A source stated: 'David was told to speak to them via Schillings. That was the only way for them to communicate.'
