Former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan has publicly blasted her ex-partner, footballer Scott Sinclair, in a furious social media outburst, labelling him a 'piece of s**t' for allegedly missing their young son's school nativity play.
Social Media Explosion Over Missed School Event
The drama unfolded on Tuesday evening when Flanagan, 35, took to her Instagram account to directly call out Sinclair, 36. Her anger was triggered after Sinclair posted a series of photographs from a lavish weekend at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. The snaps showcased views of the race track, socialising with friends, and a sizeable yacht, captioned "What a weekend-Abu Dhabi F1".
In a now-deleted comment on his post, Flanagan fumed: "You really are a piece of s*** @scotty_sinclair how dare you not turn up to Charlie's nativity". She followed this with a separate post featuring a picture of herself and their son, Charlie, calling him the 'best boy'. The public spat highlights the ongoing tensions between the former couple, who share three children: Matilda, Charlie, and Delilah.
A Rocky Road Since Their 2022 Split
The pair, once celebrated for their fairy-tale romance in glossy magazines, called time on their relationship in 2022 after hitting a 'rough patch'. Despite numerous attempts at reconciliation, they ultimately decided to separate. In a candid interview on Charlotte Dawson's podcast last year, Flanagan offered a stark assessment of their current dynamic.
"I still love him very much, I care about him deeply, but we don’t like each other," she revealed. "We don’t like each other at all, we don’t get on. I do know that Scott - he’d never admit it - cares about me too and he does love me." She described their final interactions as a mix of lingering affection and friction, even joking about his bucket hat.
Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, the actress reflected on the sadness of their breakup. "Break-ups are so sad, and if you can deal with it in a way where you're on good terms, it's better for your mental health and 100% better for the kids," she stated. However, she admitted maintaining an amicable co-parenting relationship is a challenge, confessing they still sometimes tell each other to 'f*** off'.
Navigating Co-Parenting and Family Ties
Despite the clashes, Flanagan emphasised efforts to keep things civil for their children's sake. She noted that their extended families still get along well, and she maintains a positive relationship with Sinclair's mother. "We've managed to keep things quite nice and we've been fair to each other. It's helped that our families get on," she explained.
Ultimately, Flanagan confirmed she was the one who made the final decision to end the relationship for good. "Me and Scott really loved each other, but we were always quietly breaking up and then getting back together, so it had been a long time coming," she said. While expressing lasting sadness that it didn't work out, she concluded, "we’re happier apart."
The Mirror has contacted representatives for Scott Sinclair for comment regarding Helen Flanagan's claims about the missed nativity play. As of now, the private footballer has not publicly responded to the accusation.
