A GoFundMe campaign established to support the teenage daughters of actor Eric Dane, who passed away last week, is currently under review by the platform, with approximately $500,000 in raised funds being held as part of standard procedures.
Fundraiser Launched After Actor's Death
Eric Dane, renowned for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, died on Thursday at the age of 53 after a prolonged battle with ALS. In response, a GoFundMe page was created by "Friends of the Dane Family" to provide financial assistance for his daughters, Billie and Georgia, during this difficult time.
Rapid Fundraising and Donations
The campaign quickly gained momentum, surpassing $280,000 in donations within a short period. Notable contributions included a $27,000 donation from Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria. Due to the overwhelming support, the fundraising target was subsequently increased to $500,000.
Review Process and Financial Struggles
GoFundMe has confirmed that the campaign is under review, a standard practice to ensure legitimacy and compliance with platform policies. All collected donations are currently on hold pending this assessment. A close friend of the family revealed that Dane faced significant financial hardships, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and his ALS diagnosis, which affected his ability to provide for his family.
This situation highlights the challenges faced by families dealing with terminal illnesses and the role of crowdfunding in offering support during crises.
