Coronation Street favourite Sally Carman has opened up about her upcoming festive break, revealing she and her husband – fellow cobbles star Joe Duttine – are planning a romantic getaway away from the Manchester-based soap.
A Scottish Retreat for the Soap Couple
The actress, who is 50 and has played the turbulent mechanic Abi Webster since 2017, is married to Joe Duttine, 55, famed for his role as taxi driver Tim Metcalfe. The couple tied the knot in 2022 and are now set to swap the familiar backstreet for the Highlands. "My husband and I will be spending it in Scotland," Sally shared. "We are going for a few days, staying in a very lovely, Christmassy hotel."
Despite the planned escape, Carman has already fully embraced the festive spirit at home. She described going "all out" with her decorations, which include an impressive eight Christmas trees in total. "I have an ice land/winter wonderland display, a wonderland forest display and a very camp pink reindeer corner," she explained, noting that three of the trees are a substantial seven feet tall.
No Resolutions, Just Peace and Joy
When asked about her Christmas wishes, the former Shameless star kept it simple, stating she desires "peace, joy, and love." This reflective mood extends to the New Year, as she confessed she does not make traditional resolutions. "I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions," she said. "But I do always try to sort of just start fresh and get a good mindset, which generally consists of: look after yourself and be kind."
Abi Webster's Naughty List Streak
The conversation naturally turned to her on-screen alter-ego, Abi, whose dramatic year has included an affair with her brother-in-law Carl Webster, ending her marriage to Kevin. Sally joked about which of Santa's lists her character would be on. "She’s on the naughty list for eight years straight - she’s very consistent!" she laughed.
The actress has previously spoken about how Abi's controversial choices have impacted her in real life, revealing she has faced the wrath of loyal Corrie fans. "You cannot mess with Kevin Webster," she said during an appearance on This Morning. "I have been handbagged in the street. People are not happy with me."
