Corey Feldman Expresses Disappointment Over Oscars Snub for Rob Reiner Tribute
Corey Feldman on Oscars Snub: 'Family Reunion I Wasn't Invited To'

Corey Feldman, the renowned actor from the classic film Stand By Me, has publicly voiced his disappointment after being omitted from a special tribute to the late director Rob Reiner at the Academy Awards earlier this month. The emotional segment, which honoured Reiner and his wife Michele, who tragically passed away in December, featured a star-studded lineup but notably excluded Feldman.

A Tribute Felt Like a Family Reunion Without Invitation

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feldman reflected on the Oscars ceremony, where Billy Crystal led an extended tribute to Reiner. He was joined by over a dozen actors from Reiner's iconic films, including Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and John Cusack. Feldman's Stand By Me co-stars, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell, were also present on stage, making his absence more poignant.

"I think Jerry and Wil did what had to be done," Feldman remarked. "It was a fleeting moment, so I don't feel like I missed much at all. Although they did a wonderful job, I would've liked to have heard from Wil and Jerry and a few other people up there." He added, "Personally, it felt a little bit like a family reunion I wasn't invited to. It is what it is ... I just want to say that I'm with the rest of us, we're all very destroyed that things went down the way they did."

Plans for Anniversary Celebrations Scaled Down

Feldman revealed that there had been initial plans for events with Reiner to mark the 40th anniversary rerelease of Stand By Me, but these have now been significantly reduced following the director's untimely death. "We all would've loved to be able to say goodbye in our own ways. Unfortunately, that didn't happen," he said. "The best way we can say goodbye is honouring him and his work ... and hopefully going out there to celebrate him one last time on a big screen where it deserves to be seen."

The Reiners were found deceased at their home on December 14th, with their son, Nick Reiner, facing charges of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Feldman's Personal Journey and Controversies

Beyond his acting career, Feldman has been a vocal advocate as a survivor of child sexual abuse. His 2020 documentary, My Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys, delves into his experiences and those of his late co-star Corey Haim, alleging multiple instances of abuse during their childhood. In a separate development, Feldman faced sexual assault allegations from several women in 2020, which he firmly denies, leading to his removal from the Sag-Aftra sexual harassment committee after his appointment.

The Oscars tribute served as a heartfelt moment to remember Rob Reiner's contributions to cinema, but for Feldman, it highlighted a sense of exclusion amidst the collective mourning. As the film community continues to grapple with this loss, Feldman's words underscore the personal connections and unresolved emotions that often accompany such public commemorations.
