Former TOWIE star Chloe Sims has candidly shared the brutal awakening she experienced upon realising her UK fame holds little weight in Los Angeles. The 44-year-old reality television personality, who first rose to prominence on The Only Way Is Essex in 2011, departed the series in 2022 and relocated permanently to LA with her sisters to film their Kardashian-inspired reality programme, House of Sims.
A Stark Contrast in Recognition
During a recent appearance on the Boyfriend Material podcast hosted by Harry Jowsey, Chloe admitted the reception in California was far from the warm welcome she anticipated. "Nobody cares about me here. Literally no one gives a f**k," she confessed bluntly. Jowsey acknowledged the intense celebrity culture saturating Los Angeles, to which Sims responded with mixed feelings.
"Yeah and I couldn’t work out whether I liked it or hated it," she explained. "Because in one point of view I could pretty much be a normal person again but then it has its downfalls."
The Humbling Transition
The reality star, who is determined to establish herself in the American market, elaborated on the moment she grasped her anonymity. "I used to go to the toilet in London and girls would be like 'Omg I love your hair' and I’d be like 'Thanks yours is nice too.' Well I didn’t realise that was all because of TOWIE," she recalled.
"And then I moved to LA and all the girls were being really mean to me. I just noticed that no one knows me here I’m just a regular person."
Embracing LA Life Despite Challenges
Despite this reality check, Chloe remains in Los Angeles and describes her American experience as largely positive. "Life in LA is amazing. I’m not who I am in the UK," she stated. "I’ve had time off from being famous, but I’m hoping that everyone in the city is going to know my name eventually."
She acknowledged the practical difficulties of starting anew in an unfamiliar city. "We landed in America completely blind. We had a house for a month, we didn’t know our way around!" she revealed. "Even getting a reservation at a restaurant isn’t easy when you’re not famous here. It’s been a bit of humble pie for me."
Reflections on Cosmetic Surgery Offers
This revelation follows Chloe's recent disclosure about being inundated with free cosmetic surgery offers after joining TOWIE. The television personality, who has been transparent about undergoing numerous procedures with reported costs exceeding £100,000, shared details on Paul Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast.
"The look back then was like all boobs and nothing else. Skinny. Boobs. Sort of how the glamour models looked," she described of the era. "I really wanted to have a big chest, I was obsessed with that, and I thought that was going to change all my dreams. And then I did that, and when I went onto TOWIE, I got offered every surgery in the world."
She continued: "I could have had anything I wanted for free. So then I wanted to go even bigger, and as luck would have it, someone must’ve been looking down on me. They couldn’t fit them in."
Surgical Limitations and Current Views
Chloe explained that she desired implants that appeared "big and fake," but her surgeon cautioned they would attempt their best. Upon waking from the procedure, she learned the requested implant size was physically incompatible with her frame, necessitating smaller implants to mitigate risks like infection, skin stretching, and tissue necrosis.
In the same interview, Chloe confessed she retains the same implants but has contemplated removal. "I just can’t be bothered for major surgery for no reason," she said. "It’s something that I would really love to take out, I don’t want them anymore. It’s not a good look, I do tend to hide them most of the time." The TOWIE alum has previously undergone a Brazilian bum lift and discussed removing facial fillers, maintaining her openness about cosmetic enhancements.
