Carol Vorderman: First Marriage Was a 14-Week Rebound

Carol Vorderman has revealed that her first marriage was a rebound, lasting only 14 weeks after meeting her husband. The former Countdown star borrowed her wedding dress from the game show 3-2-1.

A Candid Confession

Appearing on A Night In with Sally Lindsay on Channel 5, Carol opened up about her past relationships. She married Christopher Mather in 1985 but divorced the following year. She later married Patrick King in 1990, with whom she has two children, before separating in 2000.

When asked about her first wedding dress, Carol admitted: 'That was my first wedding, [I've had] two, that one didn't count though, I had only known him weeks, 14 weeks. I was on the rebound and I thought, yeah, yeah.'

Borrowed Outfits

Carol revealed she borrowed both her wedding dress and evening outfit. 'I borrowed the wedding dress and I borrowed the evening dress from the costume cage from 3-2-1. It was all mesh with sequins in the right places. I got on stage and sang It's Raining Men as the bride.'

She has previously joked that performing that song may have contributed to the marriage's swift end.

Regret Over Second Divorce

Regarding her second husband, Carol has never publicly explained the split but expressed regret. 'I never said why my marriage broke down. The divorce is a regret of mine and my mum thinks we should have stayed together. He's now remarried so there's no chance of us getting back together. Had my career not taken off, Paddy and I probably wouldn't have split up.'

No Desire to Remarry

Carol has not remarried and says she never wants to again. She prefers having 'special friends' rather than a monogamous relationship. 'I couldn't think of anything worse right now. I love seeing mates, I've got lots of great mates. I have a great social life, I don't need anyone for money, I don't need anyone for anything really, other than the nice bits,' she laughed.
