Brooklyn Beckham's Seawater Pasta Tip Sparks Backlash

Brooklyn Beckham, the celebrity offspring and aspiring chef, has sparked controversy after sharing a TikTok video in which he uses seawater to cook pasta while working on a yacht. The clip, filmed on board what appears to be a superyacht, shows him scooping a saucepan of water from the ocean to boil his spaghetti.

The video drew immediate criticism from viewers, with one commenting: “That’s disgusting.” Another added: “Obviously cooking pasta in seawater where there are boats that dump diesel into the sea and E coli abounds is not really the best alternative.” Despite boiling the water, which would kill bacteria, concerns remain about potential contaminants such as diesel and sewage.

Boiling pasta in seawater is not uncommon among seafarers, though many recommend diluting it with fresh water to reduce saltiness. Beckham’s approach, however, has been met with skepticism given his lack of formal culinary training. Previous cooking ventures, including a video series called Cookin’ With Brooklyn, have also faced criticism for relying heavily on professional help.

This is not the first time Beckham has been mocked for his culinary efforts; earlier masterclasses included jacket potatoes with cheese and baked beans. Despite the backlash, some have defended him, arguing that he is at least trying and that using seawater saves fresh water.
