The US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was struck by two drones early on Tuesday, causing a limited fire and minor material damage, according to Saudi Arabia's defence ministry. The attack occurred in the diplomatic quarter, where a loud blast and flames were reported, with black smoke visible over the area.
Reuters quoted sources saying there were no reported injuries as the building was empty during the early morning hours. The incident is part of the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, which has expanded across the Middle East.
In related developments, Iranian drones also struck an Australian military facility at Al Minhad airbase in the United Arab Emirates, but no injuries were reported. Australia's defence minister Richard Marles confirmed that all Australian personnel are safe.
The Israeli military issued new evacuation orders for 50 locations in Lebanon, including southern Beirut neighbourhoods, warning residents to stay away from buildings near Hezbollah facilities. Meanwhile, Japan advised its shipowners to keep vessels away from the Persian Gulf to ensure crew safety.
US President Donald Trump indicated that the US would retaliate 'soon' for the embassy attack, without providing further details. He also suggested that US strikes on Iran could extend longer than initially predicted.
