Former Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent was moved to tears during a candid podcast interview as she spoke about the profound loss of her grandmother more than a year on.
Opening Up About Grief
The 32-year-old, best known for playing Sophie Webster on the ITV soap from 2004 to 2019, became emotional while discussing the death of her grandmother, Joan, on October 5, 2024. Appearing on the Live, Laugh, Luke podcast, Vincent described how her family's "whole world was turned upside down" by the bereavement.
She revealed that for a long time, talking about her loss felt like "someone's punched me in the throat," a sensation that would surface at the most unexpected moments. While she admitted she still struggles, Vincent said she has now reached a stage where she can discuss her nan without that overwhelming physical reaction.
Finding Strength in Family
The actress shared how her two young sons, six-year-old Mexx and four-year-old Monroe, whom she shares with former footballer Kean Bryan, gave her a crucial sense of purpose and routine in her darkest days. "Luckily for me I had the kids," she explained. "I wasn't allowed to lie in bed and cry because I had to get up and take them to school and mask it a little bit."
However, Vincent also spoke about intentionally processing her grief. She described moments alone at home where she would play her grandmother's favourite song to "force myself to cry and get it out." Her goal was to reach a point where hearing the tune, whether sober or not, would no longer feel like a blow to the throat.
She posted touching tributes on Instagram at the time, including a photo marking her nan's golden wedding anniversary, and expressed deep gratitude for the support from friends and family.
A Potential Corrie Comeback?
During the same wide-ranging conversation, the star also addressed persistent speculation about a return to Weatherfield. Vincent left the iconic cobbles over six years ago, but hinted that a comeback could be on the cards.
"I don't know when I'm going to come back is my honest answer," she stated. She revealed she has visited the set recently, joking that the crew might now be thinking "will you p*** off home."
She described the Coronation Street studios as feeling like home after 16 years working there, warmly recalling reunions with sound technicians and makeup artists. Vincent concluded with a hopeful note for fans: "So I'd never say never and I'd love to just nip back."
The emotional interview highlighted the long and personal journey of grief, while also offering a glimmer of hope to Corrie viewers who would welcome Sophie Webster's return to their screens.
