David Bowie's Daughter Speaks Out on Missing Icon's Final Moments
Alexandria 'Lexi' Jones, the 25-year-old daughter of music legend David Bowie, has shared devastating details about why she was absent during her father's final days. In a candid revelation, Lexi explained she was forcibly removed from the family home and placed in treatment facilities, causing her to miss Bowie's death from liver cancer in 2016.
The Heartbreaking Decision That Separated a Family
Lexi described how her family made the difficult decision to send her to a treatment facility when she was just 14 years old. Struggling with severe depression, bulimia, self-harm, and substance abuse, her parents believed professional intervention was necessary. "I was greeted by two men well over six feet tall who came to take me away," Lexi recalled, describing the traumatic moment she was removed from her home.
David Bowie penned an emotional letter to his daughter explaining the family's painful choice. "I'm sorry we have to do this," the heartbreaking note read, acknowledging the difficult love behind their decision. Lexi admitted she screamed and held onto a table leg as she was dragged from the family residence.
A Childhood Overshadowed by Mental Health Battles
Lexi revealed her mental health struggles began early in life, with teachers and parents noticing something was wrong before she turned ten. "I started seeing a therapist because my teachers noticed something was off," she explained. "That was around the time I had my first anxiety attack."
The young woman described feeling immense pressure growing up as the child of successful parents. "I felt stupid, incompetent, unworthy, useless, unloveable," she confessed. "Having successful parents only made it worse. It felt like I would never live up to them."
Her struggles intensified as she developed bulimia at age 12 and began self-harming at eleven. While peers experimented with substances recreationally, Lexi used alcohol and drugs as escape mechanisms. "When the party ended for everybody else, I kept going, and I drank and got high alone," she admitted.
Treatment Facilities and Missed Goodbyes
Lexi spent 91 days in a "wilderness therapy" program where she had minimal privacy and could only shower once weekly. Following this intensive experience, she was transferred to a residential treatment center for an additional 13 months. "I had to be watched while I slept," she explained. "I had to count every time I used the bathroom."
Tragically, it was during this institutional stay that Lexi learned of her father's passing. "I had the luxury of speaking to him two days before, on his birthday," she shared. "I told him I loved him, and he said it back, and we both knew."
The news arrived through social media posts declaring Bowie had died "surrounded by his whole family." Lexi revealed this phrasing made her "physically ill because, yeah, the whole family was there. Except for me."
Processing Grief Within Program Structures
The treatment facility created a special "Grief and Loss Phase" to help Lexi process her father's death. "They structured my grief," she explained. "They categorized it and assigned milestones and expectations." Despite returning home shortly before her sixteenth birthday, Lexi eventually returned to another program after reverting to previous patterns.
Now reflecting on her experiences, Lexi believes the difficult journey has helped her become "emotionally intelligent, introspective, not afraid to reflect on some of the harder things." She shares her story publicly to acknowledge the reality of her experiences rather than carrying memories privately.
"The mental and emotional manipulation I experienced is something I will not forget," Lexi stated firmly. "And I won't pretend it didn't happen because that is abuse too." The daughter of the iconic musician continues to process both her childhood struggles and the profound loss of missing her father's final moments.
