Amy Schumer Steps Out Without Wedding Ring After Filing for Divorce

Amy Schumer has been seen in public for the first time without her wedding ring, just one day after formally submitting divorce papers to end her seven-year marriage to husband Chris Fischer. The 44-year-old comedian and actress was photographed in New York City on Wednesday, opting for a comfortable yet incognito look.

A Cautious Outing in the Big Apple

The star kept a low profile during her New York excursion, concealing her recently showcased figure beneath a massive coat. Her casual ensemble consisted of a hoodie, black leggings, and a pair of black On running shoes. She accessorised with brown designer sunglasses and tucked her signature blonde hair under a pink beanie. The most telling detail, however, was the noticeable absence of her wedding band.

This public appearance followed the legal confirmation that Schumer filed for divorce from Fischer, 45, on Tuesday. The court documents, reviewed by the Daily Mail, mark the latest formal step in their separation, which was first revealed to fans in a heartfelt Instagram post last December.

The Road to Separation

The couple, who tied the knot in Malibu in 2018 and share a six-year-old son named Gene, announced their split in a social media statement. Schumer described it as a ‘difficult decision’ but emphasised they would continue to co-parent their child. ‘We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,’ she wrote, asking for privacy.

Rumours of marital strain had been circulating for months prior. In November, the Daily Mail exclusively reported that Schumer's marriage was ‘in turmoil,’ with a close friend stating the comedian was ‘over it.’ Tellingly, Schumer wiped her Instagram clean around that time, replacing all photos with a single image that highlighted her weight loss and showed her without a wedding ring.

Insiders suggested the couple had grown distant, with Fischer ‘mostly out of the house’ and Schumer not taking him to red carpet events for months. Friends cited several potential factors, including Fischer’s autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, which Schumer had openly discussed in her comedy. ‘He doesn't even get her jokes, and being funny and making people laugh is important to her,’ one friend revealed.

Moving Forward Post-Split

Schumer appears to be embracing her new chapter. Notably, just hours before the divorce filing was confirmed, she posted a series of striking bikini pictures on Instagram, signalling a fresh start. She has been transparent about her weight loss journey, which included procedures like liposuction and the use of medication Mounjaro after trying other options.

Financial and practical steps towards separation were also evident. Schumer recently placed two joint properties on the market: a Brooklyn townhouse, initially listed for $14 million, and a New Orleans home purchased with Fischer in 2021. The couple had a prenuptial agreement in place, which Schumer humorously referenced on their seventh anniversary in February.

Despite the split, Schumer has consistently spoken positively of Fischer, particularly regarding his autism. In her 2019 Netflix special, she credited the very traits associated with his diagnosis as reasons she ‘fell madly in love with him.’ As the legal process begins, the focus for both remains on their son Gene and navigating their new lives separately.
