Adam Thomas Expresses Regret Over David Haye Confrontation on I'm A Celebrity
Waterloo Road and Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas has openly admitted that he deeply regrets not standing his ground when confronted by former boxer David Haye during filming for ITV's I'm A Celebrity...South Africa. The 37-year-old star, currently featuring in the all-stars edition of Ant and Dec's reality survival show, reflected on a tense moment where Haye attempted to force him into a Bushtucker Trial despite his health struggles.
Health Challenges and Emotional Struggle
Adam Thomas suffers from arthritis, an autoimmune condition he has been transparent about in the past. He previously explained, "It is an autoimmune disease. Basically means my immune system is attacking my own body. It causes a significant amount of pain." During the broadcast of the pre-recorded episodes, viewers witnessed Haye's aggressive insistence that Adam participate in the trial while he was feeling unwell and dehydrated.
On social media, Adam confessed that watching these scenes unfold on television has been emotionally challenging. He shared a lengthy statement expressing his internal conflict, writing, "I won’t sit here and say I handled everything perfectly, because I didn’t. I wish I spoke up for myself sooner. I wish I stood my ground instead of trying to keep the peace, but I’ve learned that being kind doesn’t mean being weak, and sometimes it takes going through tough moments to find your voice."
Support from Family and Fellow Celebrities
Adam's twin brother Scott Thomas, known for his appearance on Love Island in 2016, was among the first to publicly show solidarity. Scott wrote, "It's tough watching my twin bro go through that in there...makes my blood boil! To see someone's pure heart be tested like that is hard to watch, especially my brothers. But I understand he had to go through his own journey in there and the man he's become during/since this experience has made me so proud!"
Additional support poured in from other celebrities, including Ryan Thomas, who played Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street, and Gogglebox legend Scarlett Moffatt, who won I'm A Celebrity in 2016. Scarlett commented, "Aww Adam I bloody love you. You're one of the kindest men I know, if my little boy ends up being as caring as you then I know I'll have done a good job as a mam."
The Confrontation Details and Aftermath
The incident escalated as Adam tried to rest, explaining that dehydration made it difficult for him to undertake the trial. David Haye responded angrily, stating, "Dehydrated?! We've all got the same amount of water! Adam is doing it and that's it! When is your top form gonna come? Why aren't we forcing this dude to go and do it? Coincidentally, every time there's something to do, he's not feeling well." Scarlett Moffatt intervened, urging Haye to stop.
Since the experience, Adam has focused on healing and personal growth. He added in his statement, "Since coming out, I’ve taken time to process everything, and I’m in a much better place now. I let go of the anger, had the conversations I needed to have, and chose peace." The show continues to air, highlighting the complex dynamics of reality television and personal resilience.
