The glittering wedding of Olympic champion Adam Peaty to Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, has been marred by a painful family estrangement. The couple tied the knot at Bath Abbey on December 27, but the celebration was overshadowed by the notable absence of the groom's mother and most of his immediate family.
A Wedding Overshadowed by Absence
Adam Peaty, 31, who has changed his surname to Ramsay Peaty, married Holly in a ceremony attended by high-profile guests including David and Victoria Beckham. However, sitting over 130 miles away in Staffordshire, his mother Caroline Peaty was said to be 'beside herself' with grief at missing her son's big day. According to reports, the Peaty family were largely uninvited, with only Adam's sister Beth attending as a bridesmaid.
Security was notably tight at the historic abbey, with five guards stationed at the doors and all guests required to wear mandatory wristbands. It has been reported that Adam's father, Mark, was asked to attend but was told he would have to sit at the back 'behind the plus ones'.
Speeches and Sly Digs Deepen the Divide
The family drama reportedly spilled into the wedding speeches. Gordon Ramsay, 59, is said to have made a pointed comment during his father-of-the-bride address. After praising his daughter and telling Adam he was a 'lucky man', he reportedly told Holly: 'Shame you don't have the same,' in an apparent dig at Adam's absent parents. He also remarked that his wife Tana 'will be a good mum to them both'.
In his own speech, Adam is thought to have made no mention of his family. Instead, he emotionally praised his long-time swim coach, Mel Marshall, describing her as his 'everything' and saying he saw her 'like a mum' for her unwavering support.
The Roots of a Bitter Family Rift
The conflict appears to have been building for months. The wider Peaty family were snubbed by not receiving invitations to the couple's engagement party in September 2024. Caroline was also not invited to Holly's hen do at Soho Farmhouse, an event attended by Tana Ramsay and Victoria Beckham.
Caroline Peaty, who spent years ferrying a young Adam to early-morning training sessions, expressed her profound hurt, stating she felt as if the couple had 'cut my heart out'. She had considered turning up at the abbey regardless but was persuaded by her husband that it would be 'too upsetting'.
Moments before the ceremony, Adam reportedly received a devastating text from an uninvited aunt, Louise, which read: 'I hope you never suffer the depth of pain you have put your mother through... Remember on this, your happiest day... that you hurt your mum so deeply her soul screams.'
Despite the rift, Caroline sent her son a card and gift for his 31st birthday. A source close to the situation told The Sun: 'This was the Ramsays' plan all along. They wanted Adam's family gone and they have succeeded.'
