Olympic champion Adam Peaty has officially become part of the Ramsay family after marrying Holly Ramsay, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, on December 27. The swimmer, who has reportedly changed his surname to Ramsay Peaty, exchanged vows with his partner in a lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey.
A Wedding Overshadowed by Family Strife
Behind the glittering occasion lay a painful family drama. Adam Peaty's mother, Caroline, was left 'beside herself' with grief after being uninvited from the wedding, alongside nearly all of his immediate family. The only family member from the Peaty side in attendance was Adam's sister, Beth, who served as a bridesmaid.
Reports indicate that Adam's father, Mark, was initially asked to attend but was told he would have to sit at the back of the abbey, 'behind the plus ones'. The swimmer's great-aunt, brother, and other relatives were also excluded from the guest list.
Ramsay's Speech Adds Fuel to the Fire
The tension reportedly spilled over into the wedding speeches. According to sources, Gordon Ramsay, 59, made pointed comments during his father-of-the-bride address. After praising his daughter and new son-in-law, he is said to have told Holly, 'Shame you don't have the same', in an apparent dig at Adam's absent parents. He also remarked that his wife, Tana, 'will be a good mum to them both'.
In his own speech, Adam Peaty, 31, did not mention his family. Instead, he emotionally praised his long-time swim coach, Mel Marshall, describing her as his 'everything' and saying he saw her 'like a mum' due to her unwavering support.
Heartbreak and Harsh Words
Caroline Peaty, 59, who supported her son's swimming career from its early days, was devastated. Speaking from the family home in Staffordshire, she told reporters she felt as if Adam and Holly 'have cut my heart out'. She had considered turning up at the abbey regardless but was persuaded not to by her husband.
The conflict appears to have been building for months, with the Peaty family also snubbed from the engagement party and Holly's hen do at Soho Farmhouse. Despite the hurt, Caroline sent her son a card and gift for his 31st birthday, which fell shortly after the wedding.
Security at the event was tight, with guests including David and Victoria Beckham required to wear wristbands. Five security guards were stationed at the abbey doors, framed by white roses and hydrangeas.
The striking resemblance between Adam Peaty and a younger Gordon Ramsay was noted by many, with both men sporting similar hairstyles on their respective wedding days. Gordon was 30 when he married Tana, just a year younger than Adam is now.
