Tyne and Wear’s King’s Birthday Honours list is headed by former Sunderland South MP and author Christopher John Mullin, who is knighted for political and public service, making him the most recognisable name with strong ties to the region.
Sir Christopher, who represented Sunderland South in Parliament for more than two decades and served as a government minister, leads a list that also includes senior figures from education, engineering, business and public services across Tyne and Wear.
Among those honoured are engineering leader Dr Ian Ritchey, technology-enabled care chief executive Alyson Scurfield and education trust leader Alice Witherow, while Stewart Nicholson receives the King's Fire Service Medal for his service as Chief Fire Officer of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue.
The remainder of the honours recognise contributions to higher education, community support, search and rescue, healthcare and charitable work, reflecting the region’s strong tradition of public service and civic leadership.
