Sharon Rooney's Breakthrough Role

The 37-year-old Scottish actress rose to fame playing Rae Earl in the hit E4 series My Mad Fat Diary. The show follows Rae, a troubled teenager, as she reunites with her friends after spending four months in a psychiatric hospital. Her friends believe she was in France, and Rae must navigate her mental health and body image issues while reconnecting with them.

Based on the novel My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary by Rae Earl, the series first aired in 2013 and ran for three seasons, ending in 2015. It also launched the careers of several now-famous actors.
