In a poignant tribute to a life cut tragically short, Barnaby Webber, one of the victims of the Nottingham knife rampage, has been posthumously awarded an honorary degree. The emotional ceremony, held at the University of Nottingham, was attended by his heartbroken younger brother and family members, who gathered to honour his memory.
The university described Barnaby as an "exceptional young man whose potential was limitless", highlighting his academic achievements and vibrant personality. His brother, visibly moved, accepted the degree on his behalf as the audience gave a standing ovation.
The attack, which shocked the nation earlier this year, claimed the lives of Barnaby and two others in a senseless act of violence. The ceremony served as a moment of collective mourning and celebration of Barnaby’s legacy.
"He was more than a victim—he was a beloved son, brother, and friend," said a university spokesperson. "This degree is a small but meaningful way to ensure his spirit lives on."
The event also included a minute’s silence for all victims of knife crime, a growing concern across the UK. Campaigners have called for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
