Adorable Guide Dog Puppy Buzz Gets Movie-Themed Photoshoot
Guide Dog Puppy Buzz Stars in Movie-Themed Photoshoot

Adorable guide dog puppy Buzz has been given a movie-themed photoshoot fit for a star, as the much-loved space ranger prepares for his return to cinemas. The trainee guide dog channelled his famous namesake by exploring a delightfully nostalgic world of cloud-print wallpaper, wooden building blocks and a hand-drawn cardboard play town. At just 12 weeks old, the golden retriever looks perfectly at ease in the imaginative setting, which pays a charming tribute to the iconic film franchise and the legendary character he shares his name with.

But while puppy Buzz may already look the part of a hero, his adventure is barely off the ground. Through Guide Dogs' Sponsor a Puppy programme, members of the public can help support pups like him from their very first days right through to becoming fully qualified guide dogs.

Sponsor a Puppy Programme

Steph Potter, puppy sponsorship manager at Guide Dogs, said: “Buzz is already bringing plenty of character to the role. He is at the start of an exciting adventure that will hopefully one day see him become a true life changer. Guide dogs open up the world for people with sight loss, giving infinite possibilities. By sponsoring a puppy, people can become part of a story they are proud to share, providing guide dog puppies like Buzz all the care and training they need to succeed.”

Impact of Guide Dogs

A study of 86 users from the charity revealed that more than half (57%) believe their dog has helped them tackle a challenge they never imagined they could face. Meanwhile, 83% said their guide dog has given them the confidence to push themselves further. Because of the confidence their helper gives them, 30% have started a new hobby, 26% have completed a major fitness challenge, and 21% have pursued educational opportunities further away from home.

That confidence can unlock extraordinary possibilities, including for 18 year old Guide Dogs youth ambassador Hester Poole from Bath, who recently took part in the Winter Paralympics, accompanied by her guide dog, Pickle.

For guide dog owner Oliver, 33 from Port Talbot, that bond has meant everything. After a motorbike accident left him with a traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, hearing loss and very limited sight, his guide dog Walter has helped him rebuild his confidence and independence. Oliver said: “Walter isn’t just my guide, he’s my left eye, my best friend and my freedom. I’ll always be grateful for the way he has enhanced my life.”

Buzz is joined by Sunny and Stanley in the new litter of puppies now available to sponsor. For less than £2 a week, supporters can help their chosen puppy on their journey to becoming a life-changing guide dog. Sponsors help provide the training, care and support the puppies need to flourish, while following their progress along the way with regular 'pupdates' and photos.
