Florida Christian School Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Special Needs Student
A Christian school teacher in Florida has been taken into custody and charged with child abuse following a deeply disturbing incident involving a young student with special needs. The arrest occurred on Thursday, with authorities levelling one serious count of child abuse against the educator.
Details of the Alleged Assault
Nikol Marie Rodriguez, aged 29, was apprehended at the Primera Iglesia Hispana De La Biblia Abierta in Hialeah. This location also functions as the Peace Christian Academy, where the alleged abuse took place. The incident came to light in early March when the mother of an 8-year-old boy discovered her son had sustained bruises, scratches, and a puncture wound after a day at the school.
Officials confirmed that Rodriguez had been the primary educator for this child, who has diagnoses of autism and ADHD, since the student began attending the academy in August 2024.
Security Footage Reveals Disturbing Restraint
According to police reports, classroom security footage from March 4 captured the teacher engaging with the boy in what was described as an aggressive manner. The video allegedly shows Rodriguez grabbing the child to face her. While positioned behind the student, she is accused of pulling his arm behind his back, forcing his shoulders into an apparently painful position as he struggled against her.
The teacher then reportedly positioned her leg over the boy's thigh. Police documents, cited by the Miami Herald, state the child rocked his torso back, forth, and side to side, while moving his legs back and forth, appearing to be in agony.
Escalation of the Physical Altercation
The situation escalated further when Rodriguez allegedly flipped the student onto his back. She then placed her hands on his chest while using her leg to immobilize his lower body. Shockingly, officials added that she proceeded to slam the boy's head and body onto the ground.
The struggle continued as Rodriguez restrained the child by holding his torso, neck, and head while sitting on top of him. During this alleged abuse, another student in the classroom was seen covering his eyes and ears, according to officials.
Student's Attempts to Escape and Final Fall
The 8-year-old boy repeatedly tried to escape the teacher's grasp, including attempts to push off a wall, but Rodriguez allegedly managed to keep him pinned down. The student briefly escaped before the teacher reportedly jumped on his back and held his arms behind him once more.
Before finally releasing the child, Rodriguez is accused of shoving the boy down again, this time causing him to fall into a table. Following the altercation, she tidied the room and attended to the frightened student. Notably, officials stated that Rodriguez did not call for any medical assistance after the incident, despite the visible injuries sustained by the child.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Authorities emphasized that the boy was simply sitting in place and displayed no threatening behavior prior to the alleged assault. According to court records reviewed by the Herald, Nikol Marie Rodriguez was released from jail after posting bond. She faces one count of child abuse with no great bodily harm in connection with this deeply troubling case at the Peace Christian Academy.
