Woman Refuses Bus Seat to Pregnant Woman, Sparks Debate

A woman has faced criticism after refusing to give up her bus seat to a pregnant passenger, insisting she was in the right because she got there first.

The Incident

In a Reddit post, the woman explained she was returning home from college and had chosen a seat near the back of a crowded bus. When a pregnant woman boarded and approached her directly—bypassing the priority seats at the front—she asked for the seat. The seated woman declined, saying she was tired and wanted to sit. She admitted telling the passenger she did not care that she was pregnant.

The pregnant woman called her a jerk, and another passenger eventually gave up a seat. The original poster argued she was entitled to the seat since she boarded first, though she acknowledged she could not confirm whether priority seat occupants truly needed them.

Public Reaction

Commenters on Reddit largely condemned the woman's actions. One wrote: 'You don't have to give up a seat, but it's the kind thing to do. If you don't, you are exactly what you think you are.' Another said: 'If my healthy young child didn't offer their seat, I would be ashamed.' A third added: 'You're young and healthy. While there's no legal obligation, you give up the seat. You don't need a law to do a solid for someone having a worse day.'

Some were shocked that no one on the bus voluntarily offered a seat to the pregnant woman before she had to ask.
