A woman was knocked over by two e-scooters in a hit-and-run incident that closed streets in Edinburgh city centre on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to St Patrick Square at around 2:20pm after reports of a crash involving a female pedestrian and two e-scooters.
Victim Taken to Hospital
The woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. The extent of her injuries is not yet known. Both riders fled the scene, and police are actively searching for them.
Police Appeal for Information
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026 police were called to a crash involving a female pedestrian and two e-scooters in St Patrick Square, Edinburgh. Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be checked over.”
Bystander Describes Incident
Images from the scene showed a large police presence. A cyclist reportedly rode through the cordon on a VOI bike and was tackled by officers. A bystander said: “I was waiting to walk past the cordon when I heard shouting. Two young men on VOI bikes were approaching at great speed. One stopped, but the other went under the cordon. A female officer tried to stop him, but he went past. Officers surrounded him and put him in handcuffs.”
Bus Diversions
Buses were diverted from the area, affecting lines including 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 29, 20, 31, 37, 47, 49, and 47B.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 14:21 to attend an incident on St Patrick Street, Edinburgh. An ambulance was dispatched, and one patient was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.”
