Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Jamal Coombes in Battersea, south London. The incident occurred on Glycena Road at approximately 4:20 am on Saturday, June 20.
Victim Identified and Arrests Made
Jamal Coombes was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were arrested on Saturday, followed by a 14-year-old boy on Sunday. All three remain in custody.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie stated: 'Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal’s loved ones following his tragic death. I understand the impact this incident has had on the local community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers on patrol in the area this week.'
Police believe the assault followed an altercation and are urging anyone who was in the Lavender Hill area between 3:30 am and 5:00 am on Saturday, particularly on Glycena Road, Acanthus Road, and Pountney Road, to come forward. Witnesses who saw a group of men running are also asked to contact police.
Det Ch Insp Howie added: 'Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial. CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage may provide vital evidence. I would also urge members of the public not to assume that information has already been shared; any detail could be of significant importance to the investigation.'
