Sean Sewell jailed for sex attack on girl, 10, in Birmingham pub

Sean Sewell, 46, from Newtown, has been sentenced to six years and five months in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in a Birmingham pub and committing an indecent exposure offence on a bus. The predator was arrested just 20 minutes after the attack on April 8, following a swift response from West Midlands Police.

Swift Arrest and Investigation

Officers responded immediately after the young victim reported being touched inappropriately at a city centre venue. They located Sewell nearby and took him into custody for questioning. Detectives from the Public Protection Unit conducted a thorough investigation, which linked him to a separate incident on a bus in Birmingham in October of the previous year, where a woman reported a man exposing himself.

Sewell pleaded guilty to both charges—sexual assault of a child and indecent exposure—at Birmingham Crown Court. On Friday, July 10, he was sentenced to six years and five months in prison and placed on the sex offender register for life.

Detective Constable Lewis Harris of West Midlands Police stated: "We're pleased to see Sewell has been jailed for his crimes, where he targeted a woman and a young girl. We have remained in contact with both and they have been kept up to date throughout the investigation as we worked to bring Sewell to justice."

Temporary Detective Constable Huckerby added: "Ultimately a quick response from officers on the ground, and a thorough subsequent investigation, has led to Sewell being brought before the courts. We’re working hard across Birmingham and the West Midlands to tackle all forms of violence against women and girls. We take each report incredibly seriously."
