A Scotland supporter who traveled to Boston for the World Cup clash against Morocco found himself caught up in a terrifying car crash and shooting incident. Stuart Mackelvie had only just settled into his room at the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel when the dramatic events unfolded around 1 am on Thursday morning.
He told local TV reporters he was trying to fall asleep when a car smashed through the hotel wall, directly beneath his room. A woman then jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire. 'I heard gunshots and then I looked out the window again and a lady had driven her SUV into the side of the hotel and then she jumped out and was shouting, "Where are you? Where are you?" and then shot three times quickly, it seemed like, into the hotel room,' Mr Mackelvie said. 'Then I heard smashing glass, and I think she maybe climbed into the room and then there was loads of banging and stuff like she was trying to break a door down or something and then I called 911.'
Mr Mackelvie said numerous police officers and three ambulances arrived within minutes. He remained unaware of what happened to the woman or anyone else involved. 'It was terrifying. I thought I could kind of tell it was targeted. It wasn't like a random shooter wandering around the hotel,' he explained, noting that officers checked on guests and took statements. 'I've seen this stuff on TV, but I've never been anywhere near anything like this.'
'In the UK the police aren't armed routinely, the public aren't armed routinely so a domestic disturbance doesn't get to this stage,' he added. Reporter Anna Meiler said: 'Sturbridge police confirmed they responded here just before one o'clock this morning. They are investigating along with state police and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.' No further information on casualties or arrests has been released, but authorities confirmed there is no danger to the public. Sturbridge, Massachusetts, is located 59 miles west of Boston.
