A patient has tragically died and three ambulance crew members required hospital treatment following a collision between a car and an ambulance in Glasgow. The incident occurred on Balmore Road at the junction with Ashgill Road in the north of the city at around 9pm on Tuesday, June 16.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. A male patient who was traveling in the ambulance at the time of the crash was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by another ambulance. Sadly, he later died in hospital due to a medical matter.
Two ambulance crew members were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while a student paramedic was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offense. An investigation is now underway.
Footage from the aftermath shows a chaotic scene, with a car appearing severely damaged and the ambulance overturned onto its side, its blue lights still flashing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026, we were called to a report of a crash involving a car and an ambulance on Balmore Road, Glasgow. Emergency services attended and there were no injuries reported. A male patient who was within the ambulance later died in hospital following a medical matter. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "One of our ambulances which was en-route to hospital was involved in a road traffic collision on Balmore Road, Glasgow at 20.58 on Tuesday evening. The patient on board was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by another ambulance. Two staff members were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and a student paramedic was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary."
