An ambulance patient tragically passed away in hospital following a medical matter after being involved in a crash in Glasgow on Tuesday night. The accident, which caused the ambulance to tip onto its side, involved a car and occurred just before 9pm on July 16 at the crossroads of Balmore Road and Ashgill Road.
Injuries and Arrest
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that two paramedics and a student paramedic were injured in the collision and required hospital care. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence. Police stated that their investigations into the incident are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026, we were called to a report of a crash involving a car and an ambulance on Balmore Road, Glasgow. A male patient who was within the ambulance later died in hospital following a medical matter. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing."
Ambulance Service Statement
A representative from the Scottish Ambulance Service stated: "One of our ambulances which was en-route to hospital was involved in a road traffic collision on Balmore Road, Glasgow at 20.58 on Tuesday evening. The patient on board was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by another ambulance. Two staff members were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and a student paramedic was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary."
