M62 Wrong-Way Crash Victim Named as Tributes Pour In

Greater Manchester Police have named the woman killed in a head-on collision on the M62 as 59-year-old Sithandazile Sipepa, also known as Sitha Sipepa. The crash occurred on Saturday night, July 11, 2026, on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 21 and 22 near Saddleworth.

Police believe a grey Nissan Juke was travelling in the wrong direction when it collided head-on with a grey BMW X5. The driver of the Nissan, Ms Sipepa, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. The occupants of the BMW were treated for minor injuries.

Ms Sipepa, originally from Zimbabwe, was a well-known philanthropist and community champion. She founded the Sipepa Trust, which supported widows, orphans, and vulnerable families in Zimbabwe and organised community events in Manchester.

Tributes from Friends and Community

Zimbabwean journalist and commentator Ezra Tshisa paid tribute on Facebook, describing Ms Sipepa as a 'beloved philanthropist, community champion and dear friend'. He wrote: 'For me, this is more than just another news story. Stha was my friend for decades, ever since we both arrived in the United Kingdom. She was like a sister to me.'

He added: 'Through the Sipepa Trust, she cared for countless widows, orphans and vulnerable families in Zimbabwe. Her generosity knew no boundaries, and her compassion transformed many lives. She was far more than a community leader. She passionately promoted Zimbabwean culture throughout the UK diaspora, ensuring younger generations remained connected to their roots and identity.'

Mr Tshisa concluded: 'Her death has devastated her family and the void she leaves behind cannot easily be filled. Her legacy, however, will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.'
