Boy, 3, Shot Dead by Cousin, 4, in Vacation Tragedy

A toddler celebrating his third birthday has been accidentally shot and killed by his four-year-old cousin in what authorities describe as an unimaginable tragedy. Brayden Tennyson, from Georgia, USA, was shot dead after his cousin grabbed an unsecured and unholstered handgun inside a vehicle in Orlando, Florida, where the family was vacationing for the boy's birthday.

Details of the Incident

According to the Florida Orange County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on July 13, 2026. Family members had left the two boys alone in the car while they looked at a rental property. The four-year-old located the firearm, which investigators reportedly said belonged to Brayden’s mother, and fired it, striking the three-year-old. The adults heard the gunshot from outside the vehicle and rushed to the scene.

Brayden was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando but was later pronounced dead. The Sheriff’s Office stated that investigations are ongoing and possible charges are pending review by the State Attorney’s Office.

Family's Heartbreak

Brayden’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to bring his body back to Georgia. A relative wrote on the page: “There are no words to describe the heartbreak our family is experiencing. What was meant to be a joyful vacation to Orlando to celebrate sweet Brayden’s 3rd birthday has turned into an unimaginable tragedy.” They added: “Tuesday should have been filled with birthday candles, laughter, hugs, and happy memories. Instead, those who love Brayden are left mourning the loss of a beautiful little boy whose life was taken far too soon.”

Family's Memories

Speaking to WESH News 2, Brayden’s aunt, Dalfornia Tennyson, said: “His birthday is today. Brayden was two years old. He was a real sweet child. Real friendly.” She recalled that Brayden loved gummy fruit snacks and cookies, and would say, “Auntie, I want a snack!” Brayden’s sister told the news outlet: “I remember we used to come from school and he used to be waiting on us at the door screaming because he was happy to see us. He always loved eating all my food. He was just learning how to say my name and learning how to go to the bathroom by himself. I hate this happened to him.”
