Swansea Council has issued an update explaining why the beloved Blackpill Lido remains closed, citing theft and flooring problems.
Theft Delays Opening
On April 19, thieves stole four stainless steel water fountain sprinklers, forcing the postponement of the lido's opening. Police launched an investigation and appealed for information.
Additional Issues Emerge
On May 26, temporary fencing was erected after the council discovered that flooring had come away in some areas. Despite warm weather forecasted, with temperatures reaching 28°C in Swansea next week, the attraction remains shut.
A Swansea Council spokesperson said: “Our team undertakes all maintenance, repairs, and improvements during the off-season to get our facilities ready for the public to enjoy. Unfortunately this season we’ve been the victims of the theft of sprinklers and hampered by issues with specialist flooring installed ahead of opening.”
Safety First
The council emphasized that safety is its priority. Replacement sprinklers are due to be installed shortly, and efforts are ongoing to resolve the flooring issues so the lido can be refilled and reopened as soon as possible.
They added: “We’d like to thank residents, visitors, and local businesses for their patience and understanding, and apologise for the disappointment caused.”
