A banker with ties to royalty who was arrested in connection with the notorious "Putney Pusher" case has been rearrested after police allegedly found drugs at his home. The multi-millionaire suspect was first arrested at his plush £1.4 million mansion, as reported by MailOnline. Now the Metropolitan Police say he was rearrested while in custody on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs.
According to the Mail, the suspect is a director at a private bank and has connections to some of Europe's most prominent royal families, including the House of Windsor. His initial arrest comes nearly a decade after a jogger pushed a female pedestrian into the path of a double-decker bus on Putney Bridge on May 5, 2017.
The Putney Pusher Incident
A jogger, dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, collided with a 33-year-old woman walking in the opposite direction and shoved her. She fell onto the road into the path of an oncoming bus, which managed to swerve at the last moment, narrowly avoiding a catastrophe. The jogger continued running and about 15 minutes later, ran back over the bridge. At the time, police reported that the victim tried to speak to him but "he did not acknowledge her", according to detectives.
Officers described the suspect as a white man, in his 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair, as per the BBC. Despite scrutinising a group of around 50 people, police never made any arrests and "all lines of enquiry have been exhausted". The investigation was closed in 2018 before new information emerged that led to today's dramatic development.
Police Statement
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "On Monday, 15 June, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. He was taken to police custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident on 5 May 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney. Inquiries continue." After confirming the second arrest, they later added: "He has since been bailed pending further investigation in relation to all offences. Enquiries continue."
Political Reaction
Fleur Anderson, MP for Putney, said: "This is a significant step forward and one that many people in Putney will welcome after such a long time. My thoughts are with the woman involved - I hope this brings her some reassurance. I'd like to thank the police for sticking with this case over the years. It's important now that the investigation is able to proceed properly."
